Busy Summer

It's been a busy summer with a graduation, visits from family and getting two kids off to two different universities! I will give an update on the whole garden as soon as I can go through all the pictures. Overall it was a fairly good year with a wet spring and dry fall and summer somewhere inbetween :) I've added quite a few new plants this year and hopefully they will make it through the winter. The town's garden club puts on a garden tour each summer and they have asked me to show my garden next year. I'm sure that I will be running around like crazy trying to get everything to look just right before the tour. Here's hoping the deer don't devour the garden this winter!!

Spring has Sprung!

Finally, after a long cold winter, the temperatures are warming up and the snow is almost gone. I was worried about the bulbs that I had planted last fall but the crocus are up and blooming and the daffodils are poking through the soil

Today I went out and pruned some lower branches of a young oak tree and a few branches of our apple tree. I also picked up quite a few branches that our brittle birch trees lose every winter - what a mess! Hopefully I will get out again tomorrow and prune a few more trees and shrubs.

The pond is almost thawed out and I saw one of the fish swimming around yesterday. Can't wait to "mess around" with the pond. It's never finished.

First Post

Not much to post about so far. We are going through some very cold days now with extreme windchill. We finally got a cover of snow last week which should protect my newly established plants from frost heave as we usually get a lot of freeze/thaw temperatures in this area. The paperwhites that I got for Christmas are beginning to bloom which gives me a taste of spring - thanks Andrew!

I am a little concerned about the hundred or so bulbs that I planted last fall because we had lots of rain and I'm afraid some of them may have rotted as that bed is not too well drained. I guess only time will tell.
Looking forward to sharing my future gardening experiences - good and bad.
